A robot vacuum is able to keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency at which you'll need to manually vacuum. Find one that has excellent navigation, is able to clean corners and stairs and has a huge dust bin that requires emptying only every few times.
There are also models that can mop and charge on their own which can be beneficial for those with pets or children. Many of the best performers in our tests have good ability to overcome obstacles.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ an excellent option for those looking for an automated, hands-free cleaning experience but don't mind taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin when it is full.
Both robots are proficient at picking up surface dirt on floors and carpets, and they can easily navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ does not have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we test. It may get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood.
iRobot suggests cleaning the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty it goes back to its docking station and automatically empties its debris into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.
2. iRobot i7+ Roomba
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in the iRobot flagship line and comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. But the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot with voice or through the app.
The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.
We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room and vacuum the area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, we were able to give the i7+ voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an all-sports car that is amidst a sea of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in many households, but it also fits nicely on the table for a coffee or the bookshelf, where you can move it around like the magic wand.
The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then lets cleaner air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It can quickly change from handheld to floor vacuum, and vice versa.
This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and the Wand clip. This is a significant improvement over the older Dysons, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it can provide up to 60 minutes of run time are a bit misleading, as CR's testing shows. This is a typical and not a remarkable run time for a battery-powered cordless vac. It's enough time to clean the average-sized home however, it's not enough time to get into every corner. (A second pass generally works). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on an expensive robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently went over the same area many times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front side helps it to reach into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice addition.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, including our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often will run out of battery before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation abilities and is able to better move its own. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and can perform better on low-pile and bare floors.

In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we've tested which could be a problem for certain shoppers.
The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that is accessible through the app. You can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you to monitor your children or pets while you're away. The filter and dustbin can be cleaned for quick, painless cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ also comes with a clean station that's self-emptying and helps keep the robot's dustbin clear and optimizes its suction power for each cleaning.

It also includes a smart application that lets you see the virtual map, and control the functions and schedules. Additionally, you can track the vacuum's battery status and send it back to its dock to charge at the push of a button. The app lets you alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to tell where it is focused or if it has gotten stuck.
The app also makes it simple to manually steer the robot if needed. My living room rug for example has a dark-colored border that can trip up some other robots. However the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border without registering it as a cliff. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule is a fantastic time-saving feature.
